Description

Sixth plate sized ( 2 3/4" x 3 1/4" inch ) tintype housed in a Gutta Percha Union case manufactured by Littlefield, Parsons and Company. The case depicting the US Navy Civil War Monitor and fortress. There is a period hand written date inside the case which reads ' Nov. 28 - 1866 '. Additional pencil script appears to have been erased from the same location. It's possible the information is the identification of the gentleman depicted in the tintype. A small label is taped to the inside of the case ( easily removed ) with the man's name, date of birth and death. This is written in ball point pen and is obviously not period to the piece. A cancelled tax stamp is found on the reverse of the tintype. I do not know if this gentleman served in the US Navy. The item will be well packed and shipped priority mail small flat rate. I have other ambrotypes,
daguerreotypes, tintypes and cases listed and always combine items to keep postage costs low. NOTE - the odd gray colored line seen in the photo is just a reflection and not damage.
